UN reports rising child casualties in Lebanon despite ceasefire

According to UNICEF, an average of 11 children have been killed or injured daily in Lebanon over the past week, totaling 77 casualties. Since a U.S.-brokered ceasefire began on April 16, 55 children have been killed and 212 injured. Israel has expanded military operations, designating new areas in southern Lebanon as combat zones and conducting strikes, including one on a building in Beirut's southern suburbs. The fighting between Israeli forces and Hezbollah has persisted since March 2, despite the ceasefire agreement. The World Health Organization reported 27 attacks on healthcare facilities since the ceasefire took effect, leading to 25 deaths and 42 injuries. Damages include 16 hospitals and 13 primary healthcare centers. UNICEF spokesperson Ricardo Pires has called on all parties to adhere to international humanitarian law and protect civilian infrastructure.
