Greek Deputy Minister of Environment Nikos Tagaras passes away at 70

Greek Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Nikos Tagaras has died at the age of 70 following a battle with cancer. He passed away at the Iatriko medical center where he had been hospitalized. Tagaras was a civil engineer by profession, having graduated from the National Technical University of Athens. His political career began in local government, where he served as president of the Chiliomodi community, mayor of Tenea, and prefect of Corinth between 2003 and 2010. At the national level, he was elected as a member of the Greek Parliament for the Corinth constituency in multiple election cycles, including 2012, 2019, and 2023. Throughout his parliamentary tenure, he led several committees, including those on Research and Technology and Road Safety. He also served as Deputy Minister of Environment, Energy, and Climate Change in 2014. His death was confirmed by his son, Christos Tagaras, via social media.
