Larnaca hosts European forum on mineral raw materials

On May 28, 2026, the Entrepreneurs’ Forum titled 'Why Do We Need Minerals?' was held in Larnaca, Cyprus, as part of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The event brought together over 150 representatives from more than 20 countries, including government officials, industry leaders, and academic experts. The forum was opened by the Cypriot Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panayiotou, who emphasized the strategic importance of raw materials for European competitiveness and economic stability. Participants discussed the critical role of minerals in energy, construction, and infrastructure, as well as the need for sustainable access to resources. The event was co-organized by Aggregates Europe, Eurogypsum, Euromines, the Cyprus Quarrying Association, and the Mining Association. Following the forum, the European Aggregates Association held its general assembly on May 29 in the same city. The discussions highlighted the necessity of strengthening Europe's domestic production base to achieve long-term geopolitical and industrial goals.
