Spanish government faces corruption investigations involving party officials

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez is facing a significant political crisis as authorities investigate multiple corruption allegations involving his administration and the Socialist Party (PSOE). Police recently raided the PSOE headquarters in Madrid, seizing documents related to the alleged misuse of party funds to discredit political opponents and those who filed legal complaints against Sánchez's family members. Ana Fuentes, the party's finance manager since 2021, is among those currently under investigation. Separately, former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero is being scrutinized over allegations of influence peddling regarding the 2021 state bailout of the airline Plus Ultra, which totaled 53 million euros. Investigators are examining potential links between these funds, Venezuela, and China, as well as claims of criminal organization and document falsification. Zapatero has categorically denied all accusations. These events have intensified public and political pressure, fueling calls for early elections in Spain.
