Iran begins planning for the funeral of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei

Iranian authorities have announced the formation of a special committee to organize the funeral of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Khamenei, 86, died on February 28 during U.S.-Israeli airstrikes, ending his 36-year tenure. Although a 40-day memorial was held in April, the official funeral service has been repeatedly postponed. Mohsen Mahmoudi, head of the Tehran Islamic Coordination Council, stated that the ceremony will be a large public event, though a date remains unset. Mojtaba Khamenei, who succeeded his father in early March, has not made public appearances since his appointment and is reportedly injured, communicating only through writing. A ceasefire has been in effect since April 8, yet the funeral rites for the former leader were not previously completed. Official state media reports highlight that the logistical preparations for this delayed ceremony are now underway.
