Cyprus police arrest two more individuals in ongoing terrorism investigation

Cyprus police have arrested two additional third-country nationals in the Larnaca district in connection with an ongoing terrorism investigation. The Larnaca District Court ordered an eight-day detention for both suspects on Friday, May 29. Meanwhile, two Palestinian men, aged 32 and 38, who were previously arrested in May, appeared before the Famagusta District Court in Paralimni on May 30, where their detention was extended by eight days during closed-door proceedings. Investigators are examining reports that one suspect admitted that Israeli targets were the objective of planned attacks. Following raids on May 21 and 22, authorities seized explosive-making materials, including ammonium nitrate, from properties in Governor’s Beach and the Kamares area linked to the 32-year-old suspect. Forensic teams are currently analyzing the seized evidence for chemical composition and potential DNA traces. Police state they are investigating whether the suspects had further accomplices and maintain that these arrests have prevented potential attacks in Cyprus.
