Drone strike reported at Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant

On Saturday, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that a drone struck a turbine hall building at the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southeastern Ukraine, causing a breach in the wall. The plant has been under Russian control since March 2022 and is located near the front lines. The head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, expressed serious concern, warning that such attacks amount to playing with fire. While the IAEA requested access to inspect the damage, Russia’s state nuclear agency, Rosatom, specifically identified the strike as targeting the turbine hall of unit No. 6. Rosatom head Alexei Likhachev attributed the attack to a Ukrainian kamikaze drone and described the incident as deliberate. According to the Russian account, there was no damage to the facility's main equipment, despite the breach in the structure. As of now, there has been no official comment from the Ukrainian side regarding the incident.
