Legislative election results reshape the house of representatives

The legislative elections held on May 24 resulted in a shift toward right-of-center and conservative forces within the House of Representatives. Disy secured 17 seats with 27.1 percent, while Akel obtained 15 seats with 23.9 percent. Elam gained four additional seats, totaling eight, with 10.9 percent of the vote. Diko received eight seats with 10 percent, while the newcomers Alma and Direct Democracy gained four seats each with 5.8 and 5.4 percent respectively. Smaller parties including Edek, Dipa, and the Greens failed to cross the 3.6 percent threshold, losing their parliamentary representation. The right-of-center bloc, including Disy, Diko, and Elam, now controls 33 of the 56 total seats. Analysts noted that the number of parties in the house has decreased compared to the previous term.
