Cyprus wins the 2026 European Challenger Championships in Monaco
On Saturday, May 30, 2026, the Cypriot athletics team secured first place at the European Challenger Championships held in Monaco. Formerly known as the Championships of the Small States of Europe, this event marked the fifth victory for Cyprus in six years. Despite participating in only 18 out of 26 total events, the team finished with a total of 127 points. Cyprus outperformed second-place Malta by 16 points and third-place Luxembourg by 23 points. The competition ranking is determined by a points system rather than medal counts, where only the top athlete from each nation scores in their respective event. In addition to winning the overall points title, the Cypriot team achieved 16 medals, consisting of 7 gold, 7 silver, and 2 bronze. All seven gold medals were won by the women's team. This victory confirms Cyprus's position in the B and C divisions of the European Team Championships.
