Cyprus hosts EU-Gymnich meeting to discuss geopolitical role and IMEC corridor

Cyprus recently hosted an informal meeting of European Union foreign ministers, known as Gymnich, in Limassol. The event was attended by the foreign ministers of India and Saudi Arabia to discuss regional geopolitical integration. Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos stated that expanding Cyprus's geopolitical footprint remains a central objective of the government of President Christodoulides. The discussions focused on addressing vulnerabilities in global trade and supply chains. Participants examined the potential of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) in light of ongoing regional conflicts. Minister Kombos described the IMEC initiative as an ambitious project that has yet to reach the implementation phase. Cyprus aims to serve as one of several entry points for the corridor into Europe. The ministry emphasized that this strategy is designed to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties across the broader region.
