Cypriot President makes historic first official visit to Kazakhstan
President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides conducted his first official visit to Astana, Kazakhstan, marking a historic milestone in diplomatic relations established in 1992. During the visit, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev awarded President Christodoulides the Order of Friendship, First Class, in recognition of his contributions to bilateral cooperation. The two leaders participated in the first Cyprus-Kazakhstan Business Forum, where discussions focused on enhancing connectivity between Europe and Asia. President Christodoulides highlighted Cyprus's strong economic performance, noting a 3% growth rate in the first quarter of 2026. He positioned Cyprus as a stable, EU-aligned gateway for investment, while acknowledging Kazakhstan as a strategic partner in Central Asia. Furthermore, the President reaffirmed his commitment to resolving the Cyprus issue based on UN frameworks and expressed appreciation for Kazakhstan's support of Cyprus's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
