Cyprus Foreign Minister concludes official tour of Central Asia
Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos completed a diplomatic tour of Central Asia between June 5 and June 8, 2026, visiting Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan. This trip marked his third visit to the region in 2026, aiming to strengthen bilateral relations and promote EU-Central Asia cooperation. In Tajikistan, Kombos met with President Emomali Rahmon, the Speaker of the Lower House Faizali Idizoda, and Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin, while signing a memorandum on education and research. During his stop in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, he signed a memorandum of understanding for political cooperation and an agreement to avoid double taxation with his counterpart Jeenbek Kulubaev. The visits also provided a venue to coordinate with regional partners following the election of these nations as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for 2027-2028. Additionally, President Christodoulides recently visited Kazakhstan, emphasizing Cyprus's strategic effort to expand its diplomatic and economic footprint in the region.
