President Christodoulides conducts first official visit to Kazakhstan
President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides arrived in Astana on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, marking the first official visit by a Cypriot head of state to Kazakhstan. He traveled on the inaugural direct Air Astana flight connecting Larnaca to the Kazakh capital. During his visit, the President is scheduled to meet with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the Independence Palace to discuss bilateral cooperation. The official program includes the signing of Memoranda of Understanding in the fields of higher education, research, culture, sports, IT, cybersecurity, and e-governance, alongside an agreement between the chambers of commerce of both countries. President Tokayev will award Mr. Christodoulides the Order of Friendship. Furthermore, the agenda features an appearance at the Astana International Financial Centre for a business forum and the inauguration of the Cypriot embassy in Astana. The President is accompanied by a delegation including Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, Energy Minister Michael Damianos, and Deputy Research Minister Nicodemos Damianos.
