President Christodoulides pays first official visit to Kazakhstan

Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides is undertaking his first official visit to Kazakhstan on June 3, 2026, marking a historic diplomatic milestone between the two nations. The President departed on June 2 via the inaugural direct flight operated by Air Astana from Larnaca to Astana. During the visit, he will hold private and expanded talks with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who will bestow upon him the Order of Friendship. The agenda includes the signing of multiple Memoranda of Understanding concerning higher education, research, culture, sports, IT, cybersecurity, and e-governance, alongside an agreement between the Chambers of Commerce of both countries. Furthermore, President Christodoulides will officially inaugurate the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Astana. The Cypriot delegation includes Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos, Energy Minister Michalis Damianos, Deputy Minister Irene Piki, Deputy Minister Nikodemos Damianou, and Deputy Government Spokesperson Yiannis Antoniou. While the visit focuses on strengthening bilateral cooperation, regional analysts note its strategic importance in diversifying Cyprus's diplomatic reach amid competing geopolitical influences in Central Asia.
