President of Cyprus pays historic first visit to Kazakhstan

Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides departed on June 2, 2026, for his first official visit to Kazakhstan, marking the first time a Cypriot leader has traveled to the Central Asian country. Traveling on the maiden direct Air Astana flight from Larnaca, the President is accompanied by a delegation of government ministers and business representatives. During the visit, Christodoulides will meet with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and regional cooperation. The schedule includes the formal inauguration of the Cypriot embassy in Astana and participation in a bilateral business forum. Both nations will sign Memoranda of Understanding concerning higher education, research, culture, sports, ICT, cybersecurity, and e-governance. An agreement between the respective Chambers of Commerce will also be finalized to boost economic relations. Additionally, the President is expected to be awarded the Order of Friendship by the Kazakh authorities during his stay.
