Large-scale drone exchanges between Ukraine and Russia
Over the weekend, Ukraine and Russia engaged in a significant exchange of drone strikes targeting critical energy and military infrastructure. Ukrainian forces hit the Saratov oil refinery, the Lazarevo pumping station in the Kirov region, and fuel facilities in the Rostov, Voronezh, and Belgorod regions, as well as Armavir and Crimea. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy confirmed strikes on energy targets, while Russian officials reported fires at a tanker and port in Taganrog and an oil depot in Armavir. Sources differ on the scale of air defenses; the Russian Defence Ministry claimed to have downed between 127 and 216 drones on different nights, while Ukraine’s air force stated Russia launched over 220 drones against Ukrainian territory. Local Russian authorities reported damage to civil infrastructure and several injuries, with Taganrog extending a state of emergency. Additionally, authorities in Russian-controlled Crimea introduced fuel sales restrictions. Both sides continue to emphasize the strategic targeting of logistics and energy assets in the ongoing conflict.
