41-year-old man arrested for murder of his wife in Kalamata
In the early hours of Monday, June 1, a 41-year-old man murdered his 39-year-old wife in their apartment in Kalamata. Neighbors alerted police around 2:00 am after hearing screams and pleas for help. When officers arrived at the scene, the suspect opened the door covered in blood, and the victim was found in the bedroom with multiple knife wounds. The couple's two children, aged 6 and 10, were sleeping in the apartment during the incident and were subsequently moved to the Kalamata Hospital pediatric clinic for support. The suspect confessed to the killing but claimed the victim had attacked him with a knife while he slept, and that he acted in self-defense after a struggle. Police noted that the suspect had placed the knife in the victim's hands after the attack. Authorities are investigating potential motives, including claims by the suspect that he suspected his wife of infidelity, although no evidence currently supports this theory. He faces charges of premeditated murder, domestic violence, and weapons violations.
