Femicide of a 39-year-old woman in Kalamata

On June 1, 2025, a 39-year-old woman named Vasiliki was murdered in her apartment in Kalamata. Her 41-year-old husband, a local accountant, confessed to the killing after neighbors heard screams and alerted the police. Forensic reports indicate the victim suffered between 40 and 45 stab wounds, with many defensive wounds found on her hands. During the incident, the couple's two minor children, aged 6 and 10, were present in the adjacent room. The suspect claimed he acted in self-defense, alleging his wife attacked him with a knife while he was sleeping. However, police investigators doubt this version of events, noting the lack of defensive injuries on the suspect and suggesting he may have staged the scene by placing the weapon in the victim's hand. Authorities are currently conducting toxicological tests on the children to determine if they were sedated during the attack, as 30 Xanax pills were found in the home without a prescription. The suspect appeared in court on June 2 to face charges of intentional homicide, domestic violence, and weapons law violations.
