Olympiakos Nicosia marks 95th anniversary

Olympiakos Nicosia, a sports club based in the Taktakalas district, celebrated its 95th anniversary on June 1, 2024. The club was founded in 1931 by graduates of the Pancyprian Gymnasium to promote sports, social events, and arts. Initial leadership included Odysseas Ioannou, Mikis Michaelides, Kostas Kalisperas, Nikos Petrides, and Sotiris Michaelides. Following its establishment, the club organized a chamber orchestra and choir. In its early years, the club faced temporary closure by British colonial authorities due to member involvement in the 1931 October events. During the 1955-1959 liberation struggle, the club maintained a youth department with members who participated in the movement. Today, the club continues its athletic activities, drawing on its long-standing historical, social, and national presence in Cyprus.
