Iran launches missile and drone attacks against Kuwait and Bahrain
On June 2, 2026, Iran's Revolutionary Guards launched a series of missile and drone attacks against Kuwait and Bahrain, claiming these were retaliatory actions for U.S. strikes on an Iranian tanker and Qeshm island. Kuwaiti authorities reported that 63 people were hospitalized and one Indian national died following an attack on the international airport, which caused structural damage and temporary suspension of flights. While Iran claimed direct hits on an American helicopter base in Kuwait and the U.S. 5th Fleet headquarters in Bahrain, U.S. CENTCOM denied these claims, stating that most projectiles were intercepted or failed to reach their targets. The Kuwaiti military reported tracking and engaging 13 ballistic missiles and 17 drones, noting that debris fell on residential areas. In response to the hostilities, U.S. forces conducted strikes on a control station on Qeshm island and neutralized an empty Iranian tanker. Both the Kuwaiti government and the U.S. military have officially condemned the attacks, while Tehran warned of further retaliation for any new aggression. Tensions remain high in the region, with the U.S. and regional allies maintaining a state of high alert.
