International clinical study shows promising results for amivantamab in advanced cancer treatment

An international clinical study conducted across 11 countries has evaluated a new triple-action cancer treatment known as amivantamab. The trial involved 102 patients suffering from head and neck cancer who had previously failed to respond to conventional chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Results presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual conference in Chicago indicate that 43 participants showed a positive response to the drug. Specifically, 28 patients experienced significant tumor shrinkage, while 15 patients achieved complete remission. Professor Kevin Harrington from the Institute of Cancer Research in London described the findings as significant for patients with limited treatment options. The therapy functions by inhibiting the EGFR protein and is currently being studied in approximately 60 additional clinical trials for other cancer types, including lung, colorectal, brain, and stomach cancers. Researchers suggest that this treatment could benefit thousands of patients annually.
