48 Cypriot antiquities repatriated from Greece
On Monday, 48 Cypriot antiquities were officially returned to the Cyprus Museum. The items, consisting of pottery and limestone figurines dating from the Early Bronze Age to the Medieval period, were previously held in a private collection in Greece. They were originally acquired in Cyprus during the 1960s and 1970s. Following the death of the collector, the heirs voluntarily handed the artifacts over to the Greek authorities to facilitate their return to Cyprus. The items were formally received by Cyprus's Deputy Minister of Culture, Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou, from the Greek Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni. This transfer is part of an ongoing bilateral cooperation agreement on cultural heritage protection signed between the two nations 18 months ago. Officials emphasized that this act serves as a practical example of the commitment to safeguarding cultural heritage. All parties involved were acknowledged for their roles in the repatriation process.
