Eurostat report on single-parent households in Cyprus and the EU for 2025
According to 2025 data released by Eurostat for World Parents' Day, 10.2% of households with children in Cyprus are single-parent families. This amounts to 11,200 households, with 9,800 led by mothers and 1,400 by fathers. Regarding the number of children, 7,300 of these families have one child, 3,400 have two, and 600 have three or more. Across the European Union, single-parent households account for 12.9% of all families with children, totaling approximately 6.1 million households. Estonia recorded the highest rate in the EU at 40.6%, while the lowest rates were observed in Slovakia at 3.1%, Greece at 3.8%, and Slovenia at 4.0%. On the EU-wide level, 81.6% of single-parent households are headed by women, while 18.4% are headed by men. Most single-parent families in the EU consist of one child (60.1%), followed by two children (30.9%) and three or more (9%). These figures reflect broader demographic and social shifts across Europe.
