EU health ministers to hold emergency meeting on Ebola outbreak
The Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union has convened an emergency teleconference of EU health ministers for Friday, June 5, at 15:00. The meeting aims to address the recent Ebola outbreak in Central Africa and discuss coordination and preparedness measures among member states. Additionally, the Integrated Political Crisis Response (IPCR) mechanism has been activated in monitoring mode to facilitate information exchange. This action follows a request from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who sent a letter to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Antonio Costa, and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides. Meloni advocated for enhanced border surveillance and common arrival management rules for those traveling from affected regions. Further discussions on the matter are scheduled for the EPSCO Council on June 16. Officials confirmed that the situation has been under close observation since the crisis began.
