Cyprus records 238 percent of average May rainfall
The Cyprus Meteorological Department reported that rainfall in government-controlled areas reached 238 percent of the normal average for May, totaling 46.7 millimeters. All monitoring stations recorded levels exceeding the monthly norm, with some areas receiving nearly four times the expected amount. Paphos Airport saw the highest proportional increase at 394 percent, followed by Polis at 375 percent, Stavros tis Psokas at 371 percent, and Limassol New Port at 360 percent. In terms of absolute volume, Prodromos recorded the highest total at 127.2 millimeters, followed by Saittas at 108 millimeters and Stavros tis Psokas at 100.8 millimeters. Larnaca Airport received the lowest amount at 13.6 millimeters, which still represented 143 percent of its monthly norm. From October 1 through early June, cumulative rainfall across the island reached 569.4 millimeters, equivalent to 117 percent of the seasonal average. All stations have officially exceeded 100 percent of their expected seasonal rainfall totals.
