Large viper removed from swimming pool skimmer in Paphos
Technicians from the maintenance company Macks Pool & Home Maintenance Ltd were called to a private residence in the village of Letymbou, Paphos, to investigate a technical issue. The homeowner reported air escaping from the pool's water return jets, suggesting a malfunction in the filtration system. Upon inspecting the skimmer, technicians discovered a dead viper inside the unit. The company identified the animal as a Levantine viper, locally known as a 'fina', and noted it was the largest specimen they have ever removed from such equipment. No injuries to the residents were reported. Maintenance experts advised pool owners to exercise caution when opening skimmer lids, suggesting the use of hooks rather than fingers to avoid potential contact with wildlife. The incident highlights a common risk during warmer months when animals seek water or shelter in filtration systems.
