Two forest fires reported in Cyprus on June 2, 2026

On June 2, 2026, two separate forest fires occurred in Cyprus. The first fire broke out at 09:05 in the 'Kakovounaros' location of Fyti village, Paphos district. It was brought under control by 09:40 by seven Forestry Department personnel using one fire truck, burning a small area of low vegetation. The second fire started at 17:30 in the 'Vounos' location of Psimolofou village, Nicosia district. This fire was fully controlled by 18:10 after burning two hectares of low vegetation and olive trees. Operations in Psimolofou involved 20 Forestry Department staff with five vehicles, 10 firefighters from the Fire Service with three trucks, and local volunteers using four tractors and two excavators. Authorities are currently investigating the causes of both incidents.
