Eurostat tourism data for the first quarter of 2026

According to Eurostat data released on Tuesday, Cyprus ranked second in the European Union for the share of foreign guests in tourist nights during the first quarter of 2026, at 85.6%. Malta led the list with 93.3%, while Luxembourg followed in third place with 85.1%. Across the EU, foreign visitors accounted for approximately 46.6% of total overnight stays. In Cyprus, the number of nights spent in tourist accommodations was 368,639 in January, 476,000 in February, and 503,579 in March. Year-on-year, Cyprus saw an increase of 14.43% in January and 32.17% in February, followed by a 36.81% decline in March. One source attributes a 33.8% drop in tourism revenue to a decrease in arrivals from Israel. Total EU tourist overnight stays reached 471.1 million, a 3.4% increase compared to 2025. Ireland recorded the highest growth among member states at 35.3%.
