Cyprus retail trade data for April 2026
The Statistical Service of Cyprus reported that the retail trade turnover index, excluding motor vehicles, increased by 5.8% in value and 2.9% in volume in April 2026 compared to the same month last year. This represents a deceleration compared to the 7.8% value increase and 5.8% volume increase recorded in March 2026. For the period of January to April 2026, the general retail trade index rose by 6.4% in value and 5.5% in volume. Reports on specific sectors varied significantly; while one source noted strong growth in motor fuels and household items, another indicated a 3.6% decrease in fuel sales and differing figures for clothing and footwear. Notably, information and communication equipment experienced a 17.7% increase in volume. Conversely, categories such as jewelry, flowers, and optical goods recorded declines. Discrepancies exist between sources regarding the specific growth percentages of individual sub-sectors, reflecting different calculation metrics. Overall, the data confirms a positive consumer demand trend for the first four months of the year despite the monthly slowdown in April.
