Procedural progress in the Tempi train accident trial

The trial regarding the February 28, 2023, train accident in Tempi continued at the Three-Member Court of Appeals in Larissa. The court focused on the prosecutor's proposal concerning the eligibility of various parties to support the prosecution. The prosecutor suggested that Bar Associations be permitted to intervene only regarding the charge of disrupting transport safety, citing their role in issues of major social interest. Conversely, the prosecutor proposed rejecting the standing of the Greek State, the Panhellenic Union of Traction Personnel, and parties representing the misdemeanor charge of breach of duty related to the stationmaster's transfer. Defense attorneys for the 36 defendants had previously raised objections to these parties' involvement. During the latest hearing, only three of the 36 defendants were present, sparking criticism from lawyer Zoe Konstantopoulou, while defense counsel countered by citing the rights of the accused. The court session was adjourned to allow for further submissions from legal teams, with discussions expected to resume shortly to resolve remaining procedural disputes.
