Nicosia Criminal Court to rule on disclosure of witness documents in drug case

The Nicosia Criminal Court has reserved its decision regarding the request by the defense to access three specific documents concerning the key prosecution witness, Yiannis Andreou, known as 'Maronas'. The case involves a retrial for Giorgos Christodoulou, known as 'Zavrantonas', who is accused of possessing over 15 kilograms of cocaine. The requested documents relate to a presidential pardon granted to the witness and outstanding arrest warrants from a separate criminal case. The defense argues that Andreou, who was initially sentenced to 16 years in prison, was released after serving approximately three and a half years under the condition that he leave Cyprus. During the proceedings, defense lawyer Christos Poutziouris also raised a preliminary objection regarding a mistrial, arguing that the case should be suspended and re-registered due to the previous composition of the court. The court has scheduled the announcement of its decision for June 16 at 09:00.
