Marios Karoyan retains DIPA leadership following resignation offer
Following the election results on May 24, Marios Karoyan submitted his resignation as president of the Democratic Alignment (DIPA) during a political bureau meeting. The political bureau did not accept his resignation, concluding that the responsibility for the electoral outcome is collective. Karoyan attributed the party's performance to long-standing internal issues, organizational weaknesses, and gaps in political and communication management. He noted that although the party's ballots included many capable young candidates, they lacked the established party mechanisms required to compete effectively against larger, better-organized rivals. Furthermore, Karoyan cited external factors that negatively influenced the party's results in various provinces. Moving forward, the leadership has announced plans for an internal dialogue with the party base. These initiatives will culminate in a pan-Cypriot conference and an electoral congress to facilitate the party's renewal and reorganization.
