Nicosia Criminal Court acquits six defendants of $3.25 million theft
On Thursday, May 28, the Permanent Criminal Court of Nicosia acquitted six defendants, consisting of four individuals and two legal entities, of all 34 charges against them. The case, which had been pending for six years, involved allegations of conspiracy to commit a felony, theft of $3.25 million, document forgery, and keeping false accounts. The judicial panel, composed of judges Chr. Parpottas, Chr. Raspopoulos, and P. Savvides, issued a 205-page ruling. During the trial, the prosecution presented 26 witnesses. While the court initially found a prima facie case against the accused, all defendants exercised their right to silence and called no witnesses for the defense. Ultimately, the court ruled that the evidence provided by the prosecution was insufficient to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt. The decision also noted issues regarding the failure of the prosecution to call certain individuals as witnesses.
