Louis Dimitriou has been confirmed as the sole candidate and new president of the Cyprus Basketball Federation (KOK), with his formal election set for the General Assembly on June 24, 2026, and his tenure beginning on June 25, 2026. Dimitriou's platform focuses on developing the domestic league, upgrading aging stadium infrastructure, and providing scholarships to retain Cypriot players within the country. A key policy shift announced by the new president involves removing existing restrictions on visiting team fans, regardless of police objections. Additionally, Dimitriou intends to implement mandatory rules requiring at least one Cypriot player to be present on the court at all times during matches. Regarding international basketball, Dimitriou expressed interest in potentially hosting Olympiacos Piraeus matches in Cyprus, though this remains an open possibility. He emphasized that the development of local talent is his priority to ensure the future of the sport. His candidacy was supported by AEL and the Enosis Neon Paralimniou clubs.
