Trial of Oz Karahan and Giorgos Tattis postponed due to missing witnesses
The trial against Oz Karahan and Giorgos Tattis at the Nicosia District Court was postponed today after three prosecution witnesses failed to appear. According to defense attorney Efstathios K. Efstathiou, the absent individuals were police officers listed as prosecution witnesses 3, 4, and 5. The prosecution provided no explanation for their absence, causing further delays in a case that began in 2024. The defense counsel noted that a request for a stay of criminal proceedings was submitted to the Attorney General a year ago but remains unanswered. The defendants, who have been involved in court proceedings for eighteen months, face charges related to the display of a banner and public expression of political views. Their legal team argues that these charges raise significant concerns regarding freedom of expression. The trial has been rescheduled for November. Both defendants have publicly expressed frustration over the ongoing delays and the administrative handling of the case.
