Dromolaxia-Meneou mayor reports severe coastal erosion
Mayor Kypros Andronikou has highlighted a critical coastal erosion problem between Pervolia Lighthouse and Meneou, Cyprus. The ongoing erosion has caused significant loss of sandy beach and now threatens residential properties and public infrastructure. A lower section of the Pervolia coastal walkway faced imminent collapse, forcing the municipality to install concrete blocks for temporary protection. Mayor Andronikou stated that previous government promises made during a September meeting regarding immediate interventions were not fulfilled. A recent meeting was held in May with representatives from various state departments, including the Department of Environment and the Public Works Department, yet no effective action has been taken. Although breakwaters were initially proposed, the environmental department overturned the decision in favor of milder interventions. The mayor criticized the bureaucratic delays, noting that without municipal intervention, the walkway would have already been destroyed.
