Shark attacks reported on beaches in Brazil

Two shark attacks occurred on Brazilian beaches, resulting in severe injuries and amputations for the victims. The first incident involved 19-year-old Marcela Vitoria de Lima Santos at Boa Viagem beach, who lost her leg at the thigh. Her cousin, Jonas Andre, rescued her from the water, and an off-duty doctor applied a tourniquet to prevent fatal blood loss. Hospital director Petrus de Andrade Lima confirmed she was in hemorrhagic shock and required blood transfusions and ongoing monitoring for infection. A second incident involved an 11-year-old boy who suffered critical injuries to his hip and left side while swimming with friends. The boy underwent an amputation of his left leg due to the severity of the wounds. Emergency responders and bystanders provided immediate assistance in both cases to stabilize the victims before hospital transport.
