Escalating military conflict between the United States and Iran in the Gulf

Recent hostilities in the Gulf region have intensified following a series of strikes and counter-strikes between U.S. forces and the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The U.S. Central Command reported that Iranian missile attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait were thwarted, while U.S. forces downed Iranian drones and struck radar facilities on Qeshm Island and in Goruk. The U.S. stated these actions were in response to the downing of a U.S. drone and other aggression. Conversely, Iranian state media claimed the IRGC successfully attacked the U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain and other regional assets in retaliation for a strike on a communications tower near Qeshm. The conflict, which began in late February and involves a stalemate near the Strait of Hormuz, has caused oil prices to rise by more than 1%. Kuwait heightened its air defense alert levels as regional tensions remain high. Diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis have shown little progress, with Tehran warning of further responses if U.S. military campaigns continue.
