Hulusi Akar reaffirms Turkey's maritime claims in Aegean and Mediterranean

Hulusi Akar, the former Minister of Defense of Turkey and current Chairman of the National Defense Commission of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, made statements regarding regional security. During a recent speech, he reiterated Turkey's commitment to the 'Blue Homeland' doctrine. Akar stated that Turkey consists of a landmass of 780,000 square kilometers and a maritime area of 462,000 square kilometers. He emphasized that Ankara is determined to defend its rights and legal positions in the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean. Akar also referred to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, describing it as a key part of Turkey's national interests. He issued a warning that Turkey would respond firmly to any perceived threats against its interests in these maritime zones.
