Plans initiated for new stray dog shelter in Paphos

Authorities in Paphos are coordinating efforts to establish a new shelter for stray dogs to address the lack of facilities and the increasing population of strays. On May 13, acting Paphos Mayor Angelos Onisiforou chaired a meeting at the Municipal Hall attended by the four mayors of the Paphos district and the representative of the Paphos Communities Association. Representatives from the animal welfare organization Simba Animal Aid, including Natasa Michaelidou and Alexandros Oriettas, were also in attendance. Environment and Animal Welfare Commissioner Antonia Theodosiou announced that the government has pledged €250,000 in funding for the project. Local officials are currently conducting site research to determine the best location for the facility. The goal is to complete the development and open the shelter within 2027. The project is designed to serve all municipalities and communities across the Paphos district.
