Cyprus General Healthcare System marks seventh anniversary

The General Healthcare System of Cyprus (GeSY) has completed seven years of operation, with the Health Insurance Organization (HIO) shifting its focus toward service quality, efficiency, and long-term sustainability. Data for the period between June 2025 and May 2026 shows that the system has 1,036,681 registered beneficiaries. During this twelve-month timeframe, 839,955 beneficiaries visited personal doctors, and 676,458 consulted specialists. Diagnostic services saw high utilization, with 335,380 visits to radiology or diagnostic centers and 541,456 beneficiaries undergoing laboratory tests. Additionally, 356,028 individuals visited dentists, while 726,044 received medications or medical devices. The system also recorded more than 90,000 surgeries performed within this period. HIO General Director Ifigeneia Kammitsi stated that the system is currently in a phase of maturity and stabilization, prioritizing the enhancement of value-added services for citizens.
