Former bishop Tychikos vacates Paphos residence

Former Paphos Bishop Tychikos has vacated his residence within the Paphos Bishopric premises as of June 3, 2026. Church officials confirmed that the apartment was found empty with the keys left in the door, allowing preparations for the arrival of his successor, Archimandrite Gregorios Ioannidis. The enthronement of the new Metropolitan is scheduled for June 11, 2026, at 18:00 at the Saint Theodore Metropolitan Cathedral in Paphos. While the Archbishopric of Cyprus had proposed three housing alternatives for Tychikos, including a residence in Nicosia, reports suggest he may have relocated to a private property in Paphos. Simultaneously, the Church of Cyprus addressed rumors circulating on Facebook claiming that certain Holy Synod members, including Metropolitan Athanasios of Limassol and Neophytos of Morphou, publicly supported the deposed Tychikos. Bishops Porphyrios of Neapolis and Pankratios of Arsinoe explicitly denied making any such statements, and church sources dismissed the reports regarding the other hierarchs as highly unlikely.
