Ordination and enthronement of the new Metropolitan of Paphos
On Thursday, June 11, 2026, the ordination of Archimandrite Grigorios as the new Metropolitan of Paphos took place at the Cathedral of Apostle Barnabas in Nicosia. The ceremony was conducted during a concelebration led by Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus, attended by the representative of the Ecumenical Patriarch, Metropolitan Bartholomew of Smyrna, and members of the Holy Synod. On Wednesday, the formal election process concluded with the reading of the Great Message and the signing of the historic codex. While the official proceedings moved forward, supporters of the suspended former Metropolitan, Tychikos, organized a protest outside the Archbishopric. During the service, one individual was removed from the church for attempting to shout that the new Metropolitan was unworthy. Despite these tensions, Archbishopric officials stated that the election was unanimous and proceeded according to church regulations. The day's events concluded with the formal enthronement of Metropolitan Grigorios at the Holy Metropolitan Church of Saint Theodoros in Paphos at 6:00 p.m.
