Transition of Paphos Metropolis leadership
The enthronement of the new Metropolitan of Paphos, Archimandrite Grigorios Ioannidis, is scheduled for June 11, 2026, at 18:00 at the Metropolitan Church of Saint Theodoros in Paphos. Church sources indicate that the transition is expected to occur smoothly, with the current occupant, the former Metropolitan Tychikos, preparing to vacate the episcopal residence. Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus, who serves as the locum tenens, recently conducted a tour of the Metropolis for Grigorios to familiarize him with his future administrative duties. Discussions are currently underway regarding the future residence of Tychikos, with a proposal under consideration for him to relocate to the Archbishopric in Nicosia. The Church leadership emphasizes the importance of a calm and cooperative transition. Despite some external reports suggesting an artificial crisis, official statements maintain that all preparations are proceeding according to plan. Grigorios visited the site on June 1, receiving support from the Archbishop and local figures to ensure he is prepared for his new role.
