Cyprus Police report refutes key claims in the Sandy case

On Tuesday, Cyprus Police Chief Themistos Arnautis and spokesperson Byron Byronos presented the findings of a police investigation regarding the so-called 'Sandy' case. The investigation concludes that the core allegations made by author and journalist Makarios Drousiotis, which suggested a widespread corruption network involving politicians, judges, and economic actors, lack evidentiary support. Specifically, the police stated that no evidence was found to substantiate claims of rape by a judge or a trip to Nice. Legal expert and Dean of the University of Nicosia Law School, Achilleas Emilianides, noted that while the primary narrative based on the digital messages has collapsed, several questions remain. Emilianides highlighted the need for clarification regarding the main witness's motives and her interactions with lawyer Nikos Clerides. Furthermore, he questioned why specific individuals were targeted in the messages and the true identity of the user referred to as 'user 6'. The investigation into these lingering questions is expected to continue.
