AEL Limassol seeks to retain Thapelo Maseko after successful loan spell
AEL Limassol is currently working to retain 22-year-old winger Thapelo Maseko following the conclusion of his loan spell from Mamelodi Sundowns. The South African international joined the Cypriot club for the second half of the 2025-26 season after struggling for playing time under Mamelodi Sundowns manager Miguel Cardoso. During his time in Cyprus, Maseko recorded two goals and one assist in 15 appearances across all competitions. AEL manager Hugo Martins has reportedly expressed his desire to keep the player at the club for the upcoming season due to his performance. Reports indicate that Maseko prefers not to return to Mamelodi Sundowns, citing his dissatisfaction with the current coaching staff. The final decision remains with Mamelodi Sundowns, who will determine whether to proceed with a permanent transfer or another loan agreement. Maseko is currently joined at AEL by his compatriot, Luther Singh.
