Antisemitic assault reported on New York City subway
On the afternoon of Sunday, May 31, a 23-year-old Jewish woman was physically attacked on a C line subway train in Manhattan. The suspect, identified by police as Diana Smith of the Bronx, reportedly initiated the confrontation by shouting antisemitic slurs and conspiracy theories at passengers. According to the victim, a 23-year-old nurse, Smith eventually targeted her directly. The suspect allegedly grabbed the victim by the throat, pushed her to the floor, and pulled out a clump of her hair. The incident concluded at the Canal Street station, where the victim sought help from law enforcement and another passenger triggered an emergency alarm, leading to Smith's arrest. The victim reported suffering a concussion and expressed frustration that other passengers did not intervene during the struggle. A portion of the altercation was captured on video and published by the New York Post.
