Health authorities investigate mass food poisoning following Limassol wedding

Health authorities in Cyprus have launched an investigation into a suspected mass gastroenteritis outbreak affecting guests who attended a wedding reception in Limassol last weekend. While reports vary regarding the exact number of people affected, official data indicates that 74 individuals reported symptoms, with 21 requiring hospitalization, including children. Geographically, 39 cases were identified in Limassol, 35 in Paphos, and others in Nicosia. The Ministry of Health has deployed three investigation teams to conduct interviews, inspect the catering facility, and perform laboratory analysis on food and water samples. The operations of the involved catering establishment have been suspended pending the investigation results. Authorities are also investigating a potential connection to a separate, smaller food poisoning incident reported at another venue. The head of the Health Services, Irodotos Herodotou, confirmed that the ministry acted immediately upon receiving reports from the couple, who initially noted that approximately 50 guests showed symptoms. Investigations remain ongoing to determine the source of the pathogens.
