Argyroupoleos avenue opens in Nicosia

On Thursday, June 4, 2026, the new Argyroupoleos avenue in Nicosia was opened to traffic. The project, which was implemented by the Iacovou-Cyfield consortium, spans approximately 6.2 to 6.3 kilometers and serves as a major link between Tseriou avenue and the GSP roundabout, providing better access to the Nicosia-Limassol motorway. Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades, along with the mayors of Lakatamia and Strovolos, attended the inauguration. While official estimates for the final project cost range between €25 million and €30.7 million plus VAT, officials emphasize its role in improving road safety and alleviating traffic congestion in western Nicosia. Although the road is currently open, some auxiliary works, such as sections of pavements and cycle paths, are still pending completion. The project experienced a delay of approximately three months beyond its original schedule. Additionally, the Strovolos municipal council has decided to rename the road to Dimitris Christofias Avenue in the future.
