Argyroupoleos Avenue opens to traffic in Nicosia
On June 4, 2026, Argyroupoleos Avenue was fully opened to traffic in all four lanes, following a three-month delay from its original March deadline. The three-kilometer road connects Tseriou Avenue with the GSP roundabout, providing a direct link to the Nicosia-Limassol motorway and serving the areas of Strovolos and Lakatamia. This infrastructure project, which has been in planning for over two decades, is designed to reduce traffic congestion in western Nicosia. While the main axis is now functional, work on completing the full circular junction is expected to continue for several months. Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Alexis Vafeades attended the opening ceremony. Furthermore, the Strovolos Municipal Council has decided to rename Argyroupoleos Avenue to Dimitris Christofias Avenue. The project is considered a key development for the capital's road network and a complement to the ongoing peripheral motorway construction.
